Why choose the Nexplanon implant?

In recent years, one of the most exciting trends in contraceptive research has been the development of a range of contraceptive methods designed to meet the needs of individual women.24–29 The contraceptive implant is just one of the many options available to women and there are several advantages of using long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) methods such as Nexplanon.2, 28

The National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) recommends that LARC is offered to all women during contraceptive counselling and that all healthcare professionals should ensure that they have received sufficient information and training in order to provide this service.2 According to NICE LARC guidance the contraceptive implant is more cost-effective than combined oral contraceptive use. Furthermore NICE states that contraceptive implants and intrauterine devices are more cost-effective than injectable contraceptives.2
