The Nexplanon implant and inhibition of ovulation

The Nexplanon implant has a strong inhibitory effect on ovulation made possible by the rapid absorption of etonogestrel into the circulation following insertion. Ovulation-inhibiting concentrations of this progestogen are reached within 24 hours of implantation and maximum serum concentrations of etonogestrel are reached within 1 to 13 days.1, 31
