Who can use the Nexplanon (etonogestrel) contraceptive implant?

Women who want long-term, reliable contraception can use the Nexplanon implant so long as they have no medical condition that precludes the contraceptive implant’s use. Certain women, such as those with current breast cancer or being treated with anticoagulants for blood clots might not be able to use the contraceptive implant. Your doctor or family planning nurse will be able to assess if you are able to use the Nexplanon implant.

If you are eligible to use the Nexplanon implant and decide to use this method of long-acting reversible contraception, then the timing of inserting the contraceptive implant will depend on whether or not you are already using contraception. Please read the Nexplanon Patient Information Leaflet and talk to a doctor or family planning nurse for more information about using the Nexplanon implant.
